Configuring Thunderbird 2.0
Contributed by miltfp41
Setting up Thunderbird 2.0 to use Cotse.net POP3/SMTP email:

Under "Tools", click "Account settings".

Click the "Add Account" button near the lower left corner. The setup wizard will start.

In the first screen, select "Email account", then click "Next".

Fill in your name -- the name you want people to see on email you send them and your account's email address. Click "Next".

Select "POP" and fill in "mail.cotse.net" (without the quotes) as the server name. Do whatever you want about the "Use global inbox ..." checkbox. Click "Next".

Enter your Cotse.net user name, click "Next".

Enter the name you'd like to call this account. You may enter anything you like here. The name will show only in folder names (if you don't use the global inbox) and in the account settings window. Click "Next", check your work, and click "Finish", but you're not done yet.

Your new account name will now show in the left-hand window of "Account options". Click "Server settings" just under the account name. Fill in "Port" 995 and check the "SSL" radio button. Do whatever you like about the "Server Settings" and the "Advanced" button, but we recommend UNchecking "Leave messages on server". Otherwise, you'll get the same messages again and again every time you check mail.

All the way at the bottom of the left window (scroll if necessary), click "Outgoing Server (SMTP)".

Click the "Add" button.

Enter anything you like for the description. The "Server name" is "www.cotse.net" (without the quotes). Enter "Port number" 465.

If you check "User name and password", enter your user name. The first time you send mail using this server, you will be asked for your password. At that time, you have the option to allow Thunderbird to learn your password and use it automatically -- or not. If you did not check "User name and password", you will be prompted for your user ID and password every time you send an email.

Check the "SSL" radio button and click "OK". Set the Cotse SMTP server as the default if you want.

Click on the account name displayed in bold face on the left. At the bottom right, select your Cotse SMTP server from the dropdown list. Click "OK".

Set the rest of the account options as you please.
