Configuring Thunderbird for Cotse

Once the install has been expanded and run you'll be greeted with a Welcome screen:

Click Next >

Next screen will ask you Standard or Custom install. I always choose Custom (I install and also store my cache/mail in a Truecrypt mounted container).

Click Next >

Next you select your install location (you can leave as default if you want).

Click Next >

It next will ask where you want startup icon shortcuts. I'm picky,

Click Next >

Now you'll confirm and Install

Click Install

You'll see this screen when it is finished.

Click Finish

In the following screen enter your basic account information, name, e-mail address, cotse password.

Now before you click Continue, we are going to stop it from finishing it's auto-test by clicking the Manual config button while it is processing.

Click Continue

Now immediately click Manual config button. Before it finishes processing.

You'll get the following screen, where you can set everything up manually.

The values you need are pretty much shown

I select POP3 because I like to download my mail and store it in an encrypted volume. I set the webmail filters to Add header Only and use Thunderbird to filter on those added headers to local folders.

I set the POP3 settings in Thunderbird to leave mail on the server for N days so I keep my devices in sync (all which store to encrypted volumes).

You may prefer to keep your mail and folders on the server and if so should select IMAP, and SSL/TLS, of course (port will change to 993).

When done click the Re-test button. It will verify and you'll get the Create Account button.

Click the Create Account button.

Click OK.

You are ready to begin exploring and using Thunderbird with our service.

Multiple Identities

Now one of the powers of Cotse is the unlimited aliases, but how to send mail from them and automatically have them chosen when you reply to one you gave out? Set it up under Multiple Identities.

Go to Tools and select Account Settings...

Then select your account at the top of the left panel, in the picture below it says steve on mail.cotse.net

From here click the Manage Identities... button

Here you can Add, Edit, and Delete your different Identities. They will be available in a droplist in the from field when composing and will be auto selected for replies.

Multiple Accounts

Thunderbird also supports multiple accounts, whether they be multiple Cotse accounts or other accounts. To set up other accounts you'll go back to Tools - Account Settings

From here select Account Actions

Select Add Mail Account...

That brings you round robin to this box again. See above for setting up with Cotse, contact your other providers for setting it up with them.
